Virtual Secret Santa, where the organizer gets a surprise too
Remote team, scattered family, friends in other cities. It works well if you solve how the results get out and how the gifts get there. With Gift Shuffle, an Android app, everyone gets their own secret link.

The problem with the group chat
The usual remote method is one person drawing names and messaging everyone. It works, but that person knows every pair and has no surprise left. And the results can't go in the group chat, since each one has to reach one person only.
How to do it with secret links
- The organizer installs Gift Shuffle, creates the group and adds names, budget, date and exclusions.
- They choose "Organizer sends" and run the draw.
- They send each person their own link in a private message, in whatever chat you use. The result is hidden inside the link, so they can send it without seeing it and still play.
- Each person opens their link in a browser and sees who they're giving to, the wishlist if there is one, the budget and the date.
Watch out when forwarding: anyone who opens a link sees that result. Always send links privately, never to the group.
Getting the gifts there
Shipping is what makes the calendar harder at a distance. A simple plan:
| When | What |
|---|---|
| Three to four weeks before | Run the draw and send the links. |
| Two weeks before | Last day to order. Earlier if it crosses a border. |
| Exchange day | Everyone opens gifts at the same time on a video call. |
Addresses are the tricky part, because asking for one gives the game away. Either share a document with everyone's address before the draw, or have people ship to the organizer, who forwards the gifts.
If you'd rather not ship anything
A gift card, a subscription or something handmade and photographed all work. Agree on it up front so everyone's playing the same game. The rest is in the Secret Santa rules.
Private results, for everyone
Only the organizer installs the app. More about Gift Shuffle.
